Relevance of High-momentum Nucleons for Nuclear Phenomena
نویسنده
چکیده
A brief review is given concerning the status of the theoretical work on nucleon spectral functions. A recent concern about the validity of the concept of spectroscopic factors as deduced from (e,ep) reactions at higher Q, is discussed in some detail. The consequences of the observed spectral strength are then considered in the context of nuclear saturation. It is argued that short-range correlations are mainly responsible for the actual value of the observed charge density in Pb and by extension for the empirical value of the saturation density of nuclear matter. This observation combined with the general understanding of the spectroscopic strength suggests that a renewed study of nuclear matter, emphasizing the selfconsistent determination of the spectral strength due to short-range and tensor correlations, may shed light on the perennial nuclear saturation problem. First results using such a scheme are presented.

Delineating effects of tensor force on the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy
In this talk, we report results of our recent studies to delineate effects of the tensor force on the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy within phenomenological models. The tensor force active in the isosinglet neutron-proton interaction channel leads to appreciable depletion/population of nucleons below/above the Fermi surface in the singlenucleon momentum distribution in cold symme...
متن کاملInclusive Inelastic Electron Scattering from Nuclei
Inclusive electron scattering from nuclei at large x and Q2 is the result of a reaction mechanism that includes both quasi–elastic scattering from nucleons and deep inelastic scattering from the quark consitituents of the nucleons. Data in this regime can be used to study a wide variety of topics, including the extraction of nuclear momentum distributions, the influence of final state interacti...
متن کاملNuclear matter hole spectral function in the Bethe-Brueckner-Goldstone approach
The hole spectral function is calculated in nuclear matter to assess the relevance of nucleon-nucleon short range correlations. The calculation is carried out within the Brueckner scheme of many-body theory by using several nucleon-nucleon realistic interactions. Results are compared with other approaches based on variational methods and transport theory. Discrepancies appear in the high energy...

The Lorentz contraction of ultrarelativistic nuclei entails a spatial overlap and fusion (recom-bination, saturation) of partons belonging to different nucleons at the same impact parameter. In these lectures we present a consistent description of the fusion of partons in terms of nuclear attenuation of color dipole states of the photon and collective Weizsäcker-Williams (WW) gluon structure fu...

A comprehensive description of all single-particle properties associated with the nucleus Ca40 is generated by employing a nonlocal dispersive optical potential capable of simultaneously reproducing all relevant data above and below the Fermi energy. The introduction of nonlocality in the absorptive potentials yields equivalent elastic differential cross sections as compared to local versions b...
